NCAA approves Pratt

The National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Membership Committee has approved Pratt Institute's NCAA Division III exploratory application. Pratt will officially begin the NCAA Division III exploratory process on Sept. 1 and will be considered a Division III exploratory institution for the 2018-19 academic year.

Also, the American Collegiate Athletic Association has admitted Pratt Institute to full membership effective with the 2018-19 academic year. The admittance vote occurred during league meetings that took place on Friday, January 19, in Indianapolis in conjunction with the NCAA Convention on the contingency of Pratt being admitted to the NCAA membership process, which was achieved last week.

"This is an exciting opportunity to continue to grow Pratt athletics," said Walter Rickard, Director of Athletics and Recreation. "We have been preparing for this transition for several year and the exploratory process will allow us to continue to evaluate all aspects of our athletics programs."

Pratt's Division III exploratory year is the first step in a process that the College hopes will lead to provisional and eventually full-fledged D-III membership.

"I am thrilled that we have moved another step closer towards achieving this new level of excellence for our athletic program," added Dr. Helen Matusow-Ayres, Vice President for Student Affairs. "We began the process of meeting the NCAA Division III standards in 2011 and we have worked hard to accomplish this goal. Congratulations to the Athletic Department staff for making this dream a reality. Advancing to this level will improve the experience for each student athlete and enhance campus pride and community engagement."
