Grant earns second HVMAC Rookie of the Week award
BROOKLYN -- Pratt Institute freshman Ari Grant (Denver, CO/Denver Jewish) has been named Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Grant posted double-doubles in all three Pratt games last week, including Sunday's win over RISD. He totaled 20 points and 11 rebounds, eight after halftime, in the 55-44 win, adding four assists, a block and a steal (click for video).
The freshman played all 40 minutes in a HVMAC loss to Berkeley, totaling 18 points and tying for game-high honors with 10 boards on Wednesday. The 6-foot-5 forward led the Cannoneers with 14 points, 11 rebounds and three steals on Thursday against Cooper Union (click for video).
For the week, Grant averaged 17.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.3 steals, one block and a workmanlike 39 minutes per game.
The honor is his second such award this season, as he was named HVMAC Rookie of the Week on December 4 after totaling 23 points and 13 rebounds in a comeback win over The King's College. He is one of two players leaguewide who have been named Rookie of the Week twice.
