NEW YORK -- Three first half Natt Slober goals led the Cannoneers to a 3-2 win over Cooper Union in Pratt Institute's first men's soccer match in over a decade Friday night at Randall's Island.
The freshman gave the Cannoneers a lead the team would never relinquish early on, scoring on a feed from senior Andreas Haji-Georgi. At the 27:45 mark, Slober added a tally from Hernan Ayala to double the lead to 2-0.
With 3:43 remaining before halftime, Slober completed his hat trick by firing an unassisted strike past Hawks goalkeeper August Hunt, sending Pratt into intermission on top 3-0.
Cooper Union mounted a comeback early in the second half, with Michail Lucakiw putting the Hawks on the board in the seventh minute and Casey He adding a goal in the 13th minute. The teams traded shots for the final 30-plus minutes, with neither team scoring and Pratt prevailing 3-2.
Cannoneers keeper Joseph Mendoza stopped eight of Cooper Union's 10 shots on goal, while Hunt denied six Pratt shots in net for the Hawks.
On the night, Cooper Union out-shot the Cannoneers 16-12 and earned four corner kicks to Pratt's three.
Pratt starts its return to the pitch at 1-0 with the win, while the Hawks fall to 1-1 on the year.
Head coach Jonas Worth's Cannoneers return to play next Saturday, September 18 at the Culinary Institute of America at 1:00 p.m.
