BRONX, N.Y. - September 2, 2018 - Despite another impressive effort by freshman goalkeeper, Carter Boliek, the Pratt Institute men's soccer team lost to College of St. Elizabeth, 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Bronx Community College - Ohio Field.
Boliek finished the match with 13 saves, as the Eagles out-shot the Cannoneers, 18-10.
Pratt jumped out to an early lead, thanks to a clever header by forward, Diego Piña de la Hoz in the 15th minute. The goal was the freshman's first of his career, and the first for the Pratt team this season.
St. Elizabeth responded with two goals of their own in the first half, striking at the 25 and 42-minute mark.
The second half was scoreless for both teams until the 86th minute when a foul by a Cannoneer defender in the box lead to a penalty kick for the Eagles' forward, Nick Riggio.
His penalty kick was initially saved by a diving Boliek, but Riggio was able to scramble to his rebound and punch in the final score of the match.
Despite earning four corner kicks and nine shots in the second half, coach Randy Velasco's group couldn't find the back of the net against the St. Elizabeth defense.
Up Next: The Cannoneers are on the road Friday (September 7) as they travel to take on Penn St.-Hazleton and play under the lights. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
