Hazleton, P.A. - September 7, 2018 – Behind a two-goal performance from sophomore defender, Jared Rice, the Pratt Institute men's soccer team defeated Penn St.-Hazleton, 3-2, on the road to earn their first win of the 2018 season.
Additionally, Pratt's victory marked Randy Velasco's first-career victory as a collegiate men's soccer head coach.
Rice finished with four shots on goal, while freshman Finn Bradley notched his first goal of his collegiate career in the 25th minute to get the Cannoneers on the board. In net, freshman goalkeeper Carter Boliek made two stops and earned his first win of the 2018 season.
Pratt fell behind early, when the Nittany Lions scored in the 11th minute off a cross into the box. Bradley responded with a goal of his own to eliminate the deficit, and Rice would follow up in the 35th minute with a goal of his own.
Rice wasn't done scoring for the day, when he dribbled past a couple defenders and buried a shot in the 47th minute, giving the Cannoneers a commanding 3-1 lead.
Hazleton was able to tack on one more goal in the 61st minute to cut their deficit but Velasco's defensive unit held tough for the remainder of the contest, as the black and yellow were able to seal the victory.
For the match, Pratt out-shot Penn St.-Hazleton, 28-7, and earned nine corner kicks, while allowing zero for the home team.
Up Next: The Cannoneers will be on the road again Sunday (September 16) as they travel to the Culinary Institute. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
