New York, N.Y. - September 29, 2018 - In a battle of the institutes, the Pratt Institute men's soccer team defeated Webb Institute, 3-0, at Randall's Island on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Cannoneers improves to 3-5 overall, surpassing their win total from the 2017 season already, with six games remaining in this season's campaign.
Three different players found the back of the net to lead Pratt to victory, as in goal for the Cannoneers, Carter Boliek made three stops in the win. His counterpart, Ben Lee made eight saves in the loss for Webb.
Pratt limited Webb's offense to just three shots in 90 minutes of play, while the Cannoneers had 20 shots and put 11 of them on cage. The black and yellow also held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks in the win.
Opening the first half, Diego Piña de la Hoz received a cross from Benjamin Throsby, and was able to get a shot on goal that snuck past the keeper just 11:20 into the game. For Hoz, the goal was his third on the year. Despite having several other scoring opportunities in the first frame, the Cannoneers took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Head coach Randy Velasco's squad played with an increased sense of urgency as his group totaled 13 shots, and four corner kicks in the final 45 minutes of the match.
In the 59th minute, graduate student Ofer Shouval was able to dribble past multiple Webb defenders, and beat the goalie for his second goal of the season.
While holding a commanding two goal lead, Pratt's Noah Semus was able to shoot a low shot into the back of the net, giving him his first goal of his junior year campaign, and sealing the scoring for the match.
The Cannoneer's back line held tough throughout the game, only yielding one corner kick to Webb.
