Erickson, Salazar sweep Hudson Valley weekly awards

BROOKLYN, NY – Pratt Institute's Ben Erickson and Simon Salazar swept the weekly Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference awards for men's tennis, the league announced Tuesday.

Salazar, a freshman from Leonia, NJ, took home Rookie of the Week honors after posting a perfect 4-0 mark this past weekend. Playing in No. 2 doubles, Salazar went 2-0, recording a pair of 8-0 victories. In singles, Salazar again went 2-0, including a 10-2 win over Vaughn that capped a perfect conference record in the No. 4 position.

For Erickson, he was awarded Player of the Week accolades for the first time in his career. The reigning HVIAC Rookie of the Week went 4-0 over the weekend as Pratt finished tied atop the conference standings. The Minneapolis native registered convincing victories at No. 1 doubles, downing New Rochelle and Vaughn 8-0 and 8-2 respectively. In No. 1 singles play, Erickson's week was highlighted by a 10-1 victory over New Rochelle. 

Pratt returns to play Friday at 7:00 at the USTA National Tennis Center against The New School.
