ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY – The Pratt Institute men's tennis team dropped their non-conference contest against Bard College, 7-2, on Friday evening at Stevenson Courts. The Cannoneers see their record fall to 1-4, while the Raptors improve to 1-5 overall.
To begin doubles action, Ben Erickson and Simon Salazar battled back-and-forth before falling to Bard's Satchel Fisher and Aiden Velasco, 8-5. The Raptors would take the remaining two doubles flights and led 3-0 heading into singles play.
In the No. 2 singles slot, Simon Salazar got the Cannoneers on the board following a straight sets triumph over Bard's Nicholas George 6-2, 7-6. Johnson Meng followed suit, cruising to an impressive 6-1, 6-3 victory in No. 3 singles.
In a highly-competitive No. 4 singles match, Bard's Immanuel Zion outdueled Pratt junior Aris Azarmsa 7-5, 7-5.
In one of the more exciting matches of the evening, Pratt's Leo Yang and Bard's Isaac Rosenthal split the first two sets by identical 6-2 scores. However, Rosenthal would take the tiebreaker, 10-7, and the match. Despite the loss, the Cannoneers coaching staff praised Yang's resilience and effort.
Up Next – The Cannoneers return to Brooklyn on Saturday, March 31, for their Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener against Webb Institute. First serve is scheduled for noon.
