Salazar, Azarmsa sweep HVIAC weekly awards

BROOKLYN – Pratt Institute's Simon Salazar and Aris Azarmsa swept the weekly Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference awards for men's tennis, the league announced Monday evening.

Salazar, a sophomore from Leonia, NJ, took home Player of the Week honors after completing a perfect 2-0 mark last week. Playing in the No. 1 singles position for the first time this season, Salazar cruised to an impressive 10-2 decision over Stefan Petricevic from the University of Maine – Fort Kent. Paired with Johnson Meng in No. 1 doubles action, Salazar registered an 8-3 victory.

For Azarmsa, he was awarded Rookie of the Week accolades for the first time in his career. The Junior from Palo Alto, CA, paired with Taeyoung Chang to secure a convincing 8-1 win in No. 2 doubles play. In singles competition, Azarmsa easily bested the Bengals' Lewis Cockburn 10-1 in the No. 3 flight.

The Cannoneers resume conference play when they face the Vaughn College Warriors on Saturday, April 21 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
