Men's volleyball improves to 9-4 with 3-1 win over Yeshiva

BROOKLYN – Pratt Institute used four sets in besting visiting Yeshiva University 3-1 (25-19, 17-25, 25-22, 25-22) Tuesday night in non-conference men's volleyball play at the ARC.

Freshman Dean Liaw led all players with 14 kills, and David Cutler paced Pratt with 22 set assists while hitting a match-high .167 on eight kills. Fellow senior Ari Grant added seven kills and a .136 attack percentage as Pratt improved to 9-4 on the season.

The Maccabees responded after Pratt took Game 1 25-19 with a 25-17 win in the second set, and two Matthew Rosenburg service aces got the guests off to a 3-0 lead in the third. Two Cutler service aces and a pair of Liaw kills sparked a 9-1 run to put Pratt on top 9-4, before Yeshiva later ran off four straight to tie the set at 20-20. After a Macs timeout, Cutler and Grant kills wrapped up the Cannoneers 25-22 Game 3 win.

Trailing 7-5 to open the fourth set, Pratt used a Haven Gordon kill and three Yeshiva attack errors to take a 9-7 lead. The Maccabees later tied the game at 11-11 on a Jonathan Greenberg kill from Eizen Sander. A Cutler kill forced a Yeshiva timeout with the hosts leading 21-19, and the senior's match-best seventh service ace capped the 25-22 triumph and made victors of the Cannoneers.

Grant's four solo blocks led all players in the win, while Kristopher Patton and Justin Tiglao tied for team-high honors with 11 digs each.

Pratt returns to play Thursday night against Cooper Union at 7:30 at the ARC.
