Smith, distance runners, shine at St Joe's Winter Invitational

SOUTH HUNTINGTON, NY – Peg Smith's seventh place finish in the mile highlighted the Pratt Cannoneers' showing at the St. Joseph's College Winter Invitational on Sunday afternoon. Held at St. Anthony's high school, the meet featured some of the best track and field programs from the tristate area.

With a time of 5:48 in the finals, Smith's result was but one of the exceptional performances by the Pratt women's distance runners. In the 3,000 meters, fellow freshman Lolo Walker knocked six seconds off of last week's pace to finish in 10th place with a time of 12:26, while Eliza Ross crossed the finish line in 13:50, good for 15th place.

Pratt's distance events would culminate in the 4x800 meter relay, as the team of Smith, Walker, Ross, and Anni Morris-Swank led the Cannoneers to a 5th place finish in the finals.

In the women's weight throw, Remi Urreta's toss of 10.79 meters was good for a 12th place finish. Urreta also won her heat in the 200-meter dash – posting a time of 35.57.

On the men's side, the Cannoneers were led by Dylan Cabral's 11:04 pace in the 3,000 meters. Jason Chen performed well in sprints, posting personal bests in both the 200 and 400 meter events.
