First half surge pushes Pratt past King's College, 67-44

BROOKLYN, NY – Behind a dominant first half, the Pratt Institute women's basketball team registered a nonconference victory Wednesday as the Cannoneers downed King's College, 67-44, at the Pratt ARC.

Four Cannoneers scored in double figures, led by Emily Guerra's 14 points. Amissa Epperson and Anna Bryce each tallied 12 points, while Idalia Kaplan recorded a double-double (10 point, 10 rebounds) to go along with a career-high 6 assists.

AimeeLyn Miller's 3-pointer got things started for Pratt as they jumped out a quick 3-0 lead. King's College would even the score at five apiece before a 12-2 Pratt run, spanning nearly eight minutes, saw the host lead by nine at the first period.  

In a back-and-forth second quarter, the Lions capitalized on costly Pratt turnovers and ran off six consecutive point to cut the lead to five, 19-14. However, Kings would get no closer on the evening. A 16-0 Pratt run, capped off by Sally Song's deep three, blew the game wide open as Pratt took a commanding 40-22 lead at intermission

King's College emerged from the break and tried to cut into Pratt's lead. However, the home team's pressing defense and timely shooting helped Pratt outscore their opponents 20-17 in the third.

Holding a dominant lead, Pratt allowed their deep bench some quality minutes, as they coasted to a 67-44 victory.

The Lions were led by Kelsay Thomason and Megan Starnes, who scored 18 and 11 points respectively.

The Cannoneers will conclude their season as they travel to Vaughn College for a conference showdown this Thursday. Tipoff is slated for 6:00 pm.
