NEW YORK, NY – The Pratt Institute women's basketball lost their Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) opener, 58-52, to the Knights of Berkeley College on Thursday evening. The loss brings the Cannoneers overall mark to 4-7 (0-1 HVIAC) on the season, while Berkeley improved to 3-6 (1-0 HVIAC).
Down by 25 points, 34-9, with under three minutes remaining in the first half, the Cannoneers would enter intermission by scoring on three straight possessions, highlighted by Kathy Neblett's layup.
In the third, Amissa Epperson would score nine points and block five shots as Pratt outscored the Knights 11-4 to cut the Berkeley lead to 38-27.
As the fourth quarter began, an AimeeLyn Miller 3-pointer, followed by an Idalia Kaplan jumper, trimmed the deficit to single digits. Back-to-back threes by Miller and Anna Bryce with just under four minutes remaining, made it a two possession contest. However, Pratt was unable to close the gap as the Knights sealed the game at the free throw line and claimed the victory, 58-52.
The Cannoneers were paced offensively by Anna Bryce and Amissa Epperson, who each chipped in 17 points and 12 rebounds. AimeeLyn Miller added 11 points, while her 14 rebounds and four steals were season-highs.
Up Next - Pratt travels to Westchester County for a non-conference showdown with the Blue Angels of New Rochelle on Saturday, January 13. An 8:00 pm tipoff is scheduled.
