HVIAC recognizes Pratt's Shields as Top Rookie

BROOKLYN, NY – Pratt Institute's AC Shields was named the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Shields, a freshman defender from Summerville, SC, received the weekly honor after breaking a scoreless tie with the first goal of her collegiate career, a beautiful strike in the 35th minute against Penn State – Schuylkill.

"AC was a pleasant surprise that came out of nowhere: we literally met at an orientation event with the parents on move-in day," coach Jonas Worth recalls. "She has an excellent caliber of soccer training from several years of club play and will have a positive influence on both sides of the ball all season, up front or in the back."

Shields and the rest of the Cannoneers return to action this Saturday, as they travel to Bronxville for a non-conference match up against the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons.
