BROOKLYN, NY – Pratt Institute women's tennis team won a split on their singles flights, but Western Connecticut State took two of three doubles matches to defeat the Cannoneers 5-4 in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at the ARC.
"Everyone stepped up and played better than yesterday," coach David Eddy stated. "It was a good overall effort in a tight loss."
After dropping the first two doubles matches by identical 8-5 scores, the combination of Maia Schlussel and Cory Marks, both seeing their first action of the season, made quick work of their opponents, winning 8-0.
In singles play, Pratt's No.3, Caroline Madden, earned a hard-fought victory over Sarah Warkoski 7-5, 6-3, while Maia Schlussel continued her impressive collegiate debut by besting Lesley Coronel 6-2, 6-4. Cory Marks concluded her afternoon with dominant 6-0, 6-2 win to earn the point in No. 6 singles.
