Women's Volleyball Clips King's College in Straight Sets

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – October 24, 2018 - The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team delivered a straight-set win over the King's College (NY) Wednesday evening at the Pratt ARC.

The Cannoneers were victorious by the scores of 25-13, 25-21, 25-12, and evened their record at 12-12 on the year. The Lions fell to 11-13. Madeline Markley finished with a team-high eight kills at a .263 clip, while Shannon Corr added seven kills and seven digs. Badesim Julia Kubak ran the attack with 14 assists and also collected four service aces and 10 digs, and serve specialist Anna Elisse Yu chipped in with three service aces as well.

Pratt had a terrific start to the match, jumping out to an 11-3 cushion, highlighted by two kills from Corr. The Lions would climb back within 13-9, following an ace from Isabelle Sandmeyer but back-to-back aces from Yu would force King's to call a timeout at 17-9. Pratt would finish the set with eight unanswered points, including consecutive aces from Kubak, and a kill from Marlena Todd for a 25-13 decision. The Cannoneers limited the Panthers to a -.125 hitting percentage for the set.

In the second set, a kill from Todd gave Pratt a 10-6 lead before King's went on a 6-0 run to force head coach Louis Sepulveda to call a timeout down 12-10. The back and forth play continued as Pratt found themselves trailing 17-16, after a kill from Sandmeyer. A kill from Yessenia Sanchez gave the Cannoneers a 20-18 lead, and after another ace from Yu gave Pratt set point, a service error by King's closed out the set, 25-21.

The Cannoneers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the beginning stages of the third set, following an ace by Kubak. With the Lions fighting back, Pratt put together a 13-5 surge to earn an 18-12 edge. Pratt continued to control the momentum, finishing the set, and sealing the sweep with a 7-0 run to win 25-12.
