QUEENS -- Pratt Institute held on for a 5-4 win over Yeshiva University Friday afternoon in non-confernece women's tennis play indoors at the USTA National Tennis Center.
Junior Julie Finn (Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) came from behind in her No. 4 singles tiebreaker in earning a 9-9, 8-6 win over Jannah Eichenbaum, which ended up being the difference in improving Pratt to 10-2 on the season.
After the Cannoneers captured two of three doubles points, Gabriella Guerra (Littleton, CO/Heritage) improved to 10-0 on the season with a 10-4 win over Jenny Tepler in her No. 2 singles debut. Bumped up to No. 3 for the first time all season, senior Janet Lee (Franklin, TN/Fogg Hume) came back to notch a 10-8 win over Galila Shapiro.
Pratt opened the day taking two of three doubles points, with Guerra teaming with Rachel Caires (West Islip, NY/St. John Baptist) for an 8-3 top singles win. Finn paired with senior Rose Wong (Sterling Heights, MI/Stevenson) for an 8-4 No. 3 doubles win.
With her pair of victories, Guerra moved to 10-0 individually and 10-0 in doubles play, doing so in grand fashion, as today marked her first action in No. 2 singles or No. 1 doubles spots all season.
For Yeshiva, Rachel Shapiro (Riverdale, NY/Yeshiva High) earned a 10-3 top singles win over Caires.
At 10-2 and Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Confernece regular season champions, Pratt looks for a third straight HVIAC title tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. at the HVIAC Tournament back at the USTA National Tennis Center.
