ARC RULES & POLICIES

GENERAL POLICIES
 
The following policies apply to ALL areas of the ARC unless otherwise stated.
  • The ARC is a Pratt Institute controlled center. The facility is only accessible by authorized members with proper identification who are permitted through controlled entrances. Patrons and participants may be denied entrance or removed if identification is not presented or if rules and regulations of the facility are not observed.
  • All patrons must present a valid Pratt ID and successfully have their ID verified through swiping to enter the facility. No one will be permitted into the facility without a valid Pratt I.D.
  • Members who lend their Pratt ID cards to non-authorized persons for facility use will have their membership immediately terminated. 
  • Consistent failure to present your Pratt ID card or refusal to comply with ARC personnel may result in the suspension or revocation of membership privileges. 
  • No one under the age of 18 is permitted in the facility unless otherwise approved for a specific event or by the Pratt Athletic Department.
  • Members are NOT permitted to use any area of the ARC for personal training or any other type of professional or commercial services. Members who violate this are subject to have their membership suspended, or possibly revoked. 
  • Soliciting of external companies or services is prohibited within the ARC. 
  • Tobacco, alcohol, drugs and ALL illegal substances of any kind are prohibited in and around the facility.
  • Persons who appear under the influence, intoxicated, or behaving in a manner that is unreasonable is also prohibited while in the facility. 
  • All members are expected to act in a courteous and respectful manner at ALL TIMES. 
  • All members are expected to adhere to, follow, and uphold the standards of the Pratt Institute’s HUMAN RIGHTS POLICY in observation and recognition of prohibiting behavior and harassment on the basis of sex, gender, race, color, religion or creed, marital status, age, sexual orientation, status as a veteran, political beliefs, disability, citizenship, genetic information, or nation or ethnic origin. 
  • Profanity, abusive, vulgar, degrading, harassing, and/or discriminatory language will not be tolerated.  Yelling, rude or boisterous behavior, fighting, or aggressive confrontations are also unacceptable. 
  • Proper athletic attire is required while exercising. Apparel worn must be free of zippers, chains, rivets, buckles, etc. All patrons must be wearing a shirt or top in public areas of the facility. Athletic shoes (sneakers, athletic shoes with rubber soles, etc…) must be worn at all times unless participating in a class that requires otherwise.
  • No jewelry is recommended when engaging in activities with the exception of medical alert necklaces and bracelets. 
  • Clothing and/or coverings for religious observances are allowed, as long as it does not interfere with the individual’s ability to engage safely or bear risk to the safety of others. 
  • The ARC staff reserves the right to determine what appropriate athletic attire is.
  • No bags, jackets, or personal belongings of any kind are allowed in the dance studio, fitness room, or on the gym floor. All belongings must be stored in daily-use lockers provided, or the open (non-secured) designated areas for items. Pratt Athletics is not responsible for valuables lost or stolen within the ARC.  
  • All members of the facility must change clothes in the locker room provided. Changing in the activity areas of the ARC is not allowed.
  • Please be sure to check the ARC Locker Room schedule which does close for Pratt Varsity Contests. 
  • No personal public speakers or audio of any kind are allowed in the ARC. We ask that all members please respect other patrons by using headphones for personal music usage in accompanying their activity.
  • No camera or video recording equipment is allowed ANYWHERE within the ARC during open hours. Violators will have their membership suspended or terminated. 
  • Permission for photo or filming shoots can be requested and acquired through the Pratt Athletics and Recreation office.
  • Individuals with medical conditions or problems should consult a doctor before strenuous exercise. All members use the Pratt Athletic Facilities at their own risk.
  • All contact sports, including, but not limited to martial arts, boxing, kickboxing, jiu-jitsu, are not permitted in any area except under the supervision of Pratt Athletics.    
  • Food is not allowed in the ARC unless otherwise noted. Beverages in plastic containers with resealable caps are allowed. No glass or metal cans (i.e. soda or energy drink cans) are allowed in the ARC. All allowed food and beverages MUST be properly disposed of in trash/recycling bins around the ARC. 
  • No pets or animals are permitted within the ARC, unless noted for service assistance or purposes. 
  • Biking, riding (i.e. scooters, hoverboards, etc…), skateboarding, and in-line skating, are not allowed in the ARC.  Bicycle racks are located outside of the facilities for bicycle parking. All Bikes (full-size or fold-up models) are not allowed in the ARC. 
  • All items left unclaimed or unattended at the end of each operational day will be designated to lost and found measures - this includes items left in daily-lockers. 
  • Items will be bagged and held for claim for 30 days. All items will be discarded or donated to charity after the 30 day expiration. 
  • It is the member's responsibility to follow all posted rules and instructions of staff members. Any individual not adhering to policies or acting inappropriately will be asked to leave the facility and does risk having their membership suspended or revoked without a refund. 
  • The Pratt Athletic Department reserves the right to close any facility for any reason. 
  • ALL MEMBERSHIPS FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE AND NON-TRANSFERABLE.

FITNESS CENTER POLICIES
  • Please wipe down machines after personal use. Sanitizer bottles and paper towels are available for your use. 
  • Towels are available to members for use. Please return towels to the dirty towel bin located at the front desk when exiting the Fitness Center. Members will be held accountable for misplaced or lost towels.
  • Respect the facility and equipment at all times. DO NOT drop, throw or slam weights/dumbbells on the floor or racks. DO NOT place dumbbells or plates on benches. 
  • Use of collars/clamps is mandatory on the usage of all free weight bars. 
  • We ask that all members utilize proper techniques, spotters, and safety bars if possible. 
  • Use of chalk, liquid chalk, pine tar, or any type of extra-grip substance is not permitted in the fitness center. 
  • Put all weights, plates, bars and other equipment in its designated storage place after use.
  • No equipment is to be removed from its designated area or the Fitness Center. Dance Studio equipment may be used when Group Fitness classes are not in session.
  • All equipment must be used for its designed purpose ONLY. Do not experiment with machines.
  • Do NOT leave equipment such as, but not limited to, dumbbells, kettlebells, medicine balls in the aisles, walkways, or open activity areas. 
  • DO NOT move ANY equipment away that is already set-up in a specific manner, or from its designated area (unless otherwise noted). 
  • Personal trainers are available through the ARC. Outside personal training is strictly prohibited. Participation in unauthorized personal training can result in the termination of your membership. 
  • There is a 30-minute time limit on all cardiovascular equipment when members are waiting for the machine. Please be courteous and respectful of your other ARC members. 
  • Immediately report any equipment damage, any injury, or any irregularity that may arise to Pratt Athletics and Recreation Staff. 

PLAYING SURFACE/COURT POLICY
  • Courts are prioritized for informal recreation on a first come first serve basis. All reserved recreation court time has been designated on the calendar (i.e. Open Tennis Hours). 
  • Sneakers MUST be worn on any activity court in the ARC. Footwear which marks floor surfaces or is worn inappropriately is not allowed. High heels, boots, dress shoes, tap or open-toed shoes, sandals, flip-flops, boat shoes and various forms of footwear that are NOT sneakers designed for athletic use, are NOT allowed. 
  • There is NO hanging on the rim and/or snapping the rim allowed on the basketball rims.
  • Slamming of the backboard and pulling of the rim’s protective pieces and backboard padding is also not allowed. 
  • Hitting, kicking and/or bouncing of soccer balls, basketballs, and tennis balls against the ARC walls (and across the active track area) is not permitted.
  • Also prohibited is the bouncing, throwing, or slamming of balls and equipment in areas not designated for activity, or activity specific to the equipment (i.e. front lobby, stairwell, etc…).
  • Personal items and bags are NOT allowed around the courts in any area or space. Please store belongings in the daily-use lockers provided. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items. 
  • All members are expected to be reasonable in the usage and sharing of the court space available. 
  • Activities that are NOT basketball or Tennis taking place on the activity courts must be reasonable, must work within the Court Policies and designated court assignments, and must be approved by ARC personnel. 
  • Soccer is an approved activity, and will have designated court space assigned in capacity situations. 
  • Priority is given to previously scheduled activities, or as assigned by the Pratt Athletics Department.

TRACK POLICY
  • The ARC track is 200 meters (approximately ? of a mile). 
  • Members who use the track are encouraged to be aware of other court users and those using the ARC floor during open recreation hours. Specific activities overlap the track (i.e. tennis balls from tennis court). 
  • All track users are expected to use lanes accordingly - inside lane for walkers, middle-lane for joggers, and outside lane for runners.
  • The use of tape, markers, signage, or other materials during your track time on the track (or walls of the track) is prohibited. 
  • Users may not block access to or usage of track by others. 
  • Stretching is NOT allowed on the track. All members are encouraged to use areas off the track (inside or surrounding), or the dance studio for all stretching activities and routines prior to utilizing the track. 
  • No equipment (weights, hurdles, jump ropes, etc…) is permitted on the track unless authorized. 

GROUP FITNESS & DANCE STUDIO POLICY
  • Only instructors on the current semester group fitness schedule are permitted to use the stereo in the Dance Studio. 
  • Cleansing and sanitizing of equipment after use is mandatory. 
  • Members must wear athletic attire. No boots, flip flops, open toed, tap, or heeled shoes are permitted. Non-marking soles are only accepted. Bare feet are permitted in yoga, Pilates, meditation practices, and various classes noted and approved by Pratt Athletics.
  • Classes based on cultural dance or performance are allowed atypical clothing not otherwise sanctioned, with the approval of the Pratt Athletics Department.    
  • No one is allowed in the Dance Studio while a class is in session unless they are participating in the class currently in progress. 
  • Priority is given to previously scheduled activities, classes and programs, or as assigned by the Pratt Athletics Department.
  • Members may not reserve the Dance Studio for their personal use or prevent others from using or sharing the activity space. 
  • Unauthorized and advertised group fitness classes are not permitted in the room.
  • Members are not allowed to touch, change, or move audio or visual equipment in the room. 

LOCKER ROOM POLICY
  • All valuables should be stored in daily use lockers (or rental lockers, if you choose). 
  • Open lockers, cubbies, and coat hooks are available in designated areas. These locations are storage areas that are open and unsecure. Use at your own risk!
  • Rental lockers can be purchased at the front desk of the ARC for a varied fee (pending your type of membership). 
  • All members are expected to lock their valuables when using a locker or use open-storage areas.
  • Designated daily use lockers are to be used for the duration of the member’s ARC stay. No locks are to be left on daily-use lockers overnight. Locks that remain on daily-use lockers will be removed during the ARC closing. Contents will be bagged and placed at the front desk for pickup. 
  • Rental lockers not vacated or renewed by the member’s expiration date will be cleared on the day following the expiration. Contents will be bagged and placed at the front desk for pickup. 
  • Food may not be stored in lockers
  • Pratt Athletics reserves the right to open and inspect the contents of any locker. 
  • Cell phones, tablets, and other devices may be used throughout the facility, however taking photos or recording film is STRICTLY prohibited within the ARC’s locker rooms. 

CLEANLINESS & ORDER
 
We expect all members to keep all areas of the ARC clean. Be sure to discard all papers, ball cans, gum, and other debris in trash receptacles. Do not leave trash or debris on locker room floors. Dry off in the specified areas after showering. If you observe unclean areas, we ask that you promptly report them to the front desk of the ARC for immediate action.
 
LOST AND FOUND
 
All items found unattended or unclaimed by Pratt Athletics staff or other ARC members will be placed in the ARC Lost and Found located at the ARC Front Desk. You can retrieve any items you may have misplaced or lost within the ARC at the front desk. Pratt Athletics is NOT responsible for the lost items of members.  For information on the Lost and Found, please see HERE.
 
MEDIA & ADVERTISING

Picture taking, video and/or audio recording during PRATT REC classes and programming are only permissible with written authorization from PRATT REC. If you are interested using this FORM. Photographs may be taken of informal recreation and programs by the PRATT REC Communications & Marketing team. These photographs are used for promotional purposes. If you prefer not to be photographed, please notify the photographer.
  • Participants may not use Pratt Rec areas or facilities for any photography or videography of a promotional nature that benefits a business or company, unless explicit permission has been granted by Pratt Rec. This includes “selfies”, photoshoots, workout videos, or other media that may be posted to a company’s social media accounts, websites, or other promotional material.
  • Photography/videotaping may not be conducted in the locker rooms and restrooms.
Selfie Policy – All Pratt Rec members cell phones may be used to take photos or videos of themselves or friends working out within the facility and must remain for personal use only.
  • Selfies may not be taken in ways or formats that have the potential to negatively impact the experiences of other students and patrons, such as within a busy locker room or restroom where others may be in the background.
  • Photography or video of other guests without their explicit permission is strictly prohibited. Guests taking photos or videos with their cell phone for personal use must not interrupt or cause any nuisance to others.
  • In the event that Pratt Athletics and Recreation administration or staff suspects a guest is inappropriately using the cell phone privilege or if their engagement in selfies is causing discomfort to others, they will be asked to put their phone away or leave the facility if they continue to violate the policy.
AED LOCATIONS
 
There is currently one AED device located inside of the ARC in the front lobby.
 
ACCESSIBILITY
 
Pratt strives to make all programs, services, and activities accessible and will provide assistance to accommodate any individuals with disabilities. Security personnel, located at booths at 200 Willoughby Avenue and other campus locations, are available for assistance. Additional accessibility resources are available at www.pratt.edu/accessibility.
 
The ARC currently features an elevator that is accessible and usable throughout the upper and lower levels – giving access to all floors within the facility.
 
There is also a ADA compliant ramp in the front of the ARC that is usable for entry to the facility.
 
RENTALS & RESERVATIONS
 
To rent the ARC for an event or for a group reservation within a specific area of the facility, we ask that you please complete a form HERE. An administrator within Pratt Athletics and Recreation will follow up on your inquiry shortly.
 
Permission for ALL student film shoots, projects, and professional recordings (audio, video, or photography) MUST require a valid form of request from a professor with precise details of the intended project, and must be submitted for request at least three weeks in advance of the requested date.
 
All external companies requesting a professional film shoot (audio, video, and/or recording) MUST contact the office of Risk Management for further rental details.
 
THERMAL HEAT INDEX – CLOSURES
 
During the summer months, when the temperature reaches 85° within the facility, the ARC MUST close down to maintain the safety of our patrons. On days where THI is called, patrons will be given approximately a half hour to complete their workouts and exit the building. The building will re-open at 4:30pm.
