FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ON CLUB SPORTS
1. What is the difference between club sports and intramural sports?
A very popular question, intramural sports are short-term, recreational activities which take place on the Pratt campus and only involve members of the Pratt community. Club Sports are students who are recognized by Pratt Athletics and Recreation, and who represent the institution in contests and competition beyond Pratt, sometimes against other schools, and occasionally against the outside community at-large. Sports Clubs are also student-run, and occasionally, student-funded (with assistance and guidance from the Athletics and Recreation).
2. How do I join a Sports Club?
As easy as it is to join one of our intercollegiate varsity teams or intramural program - by completing a form below of the sport or activity of interest. All participants for Club Sports MUST have a completed physical exam on file with Pratt Institue or through our Athletic Training offices. Additional information and necessary forms can be attained and completed during initial club meetings, or within the Pratt Athletics and Recreation office.
The start of the academic year, is a great time to join a Club Sport. If you are interested in starting a club sport, you can contact Walter Rickard, Director of Athletics, or Devin Roban, Associate Director for Recreation and Facilities.
3. What are the benefits of being a member of a sport club?
Pratt Athletics and Recreation Club Sports program gives an opportunity to all Pratt students to engage in an activity or sport of their choice - at all levels, and all commitment levels. Club Sports allows our students to engage in an activity that is of interest, without the rigors of an intercollegiate varsity commitment, yet, with structure, focus, and guidance from our department, adding to the dynamic experience that is a Pratt Institute education.
4. Will the commitment to Club Sports interfere with my studio availability?
No. Absolutely not! Club Sports is a great outlet from the rigors of your education coursework, but very much allows the Pratt student ample time to engage in studio time. Commitment to Club sports are typically up to the members of the club itself, with most having a practice/session per week, with competitions anywhere from once-a-week to once-per-semester - depending on the club.
5. Will practices and/or sessions be held at the ARC?
Yes! The home of Pratt Athletics and Recreation, club sport practices and sessions can be arranged to have routine or occasional reserved time for practices or home contests (if able to host) inside of the ARC!
