Rebounding, defense leads Medgar Evers over Cannoneers

Box Score

BROOKLYN -- Medgar Evers College worked a 67-40 advantage on the boards and held Pratt to three field goals in a 57-7 win over the Cannoneers in non-conference women's basketball play Thursday night at the Pratt ARC.

A Carol Cai three-pointer from the top of the key on a kick-out from center Natali Basoski put the Cannoneers on the board at 8-3 with 12:16 remaining in the first. The Cougars stingy 3-2 zone defense, however, held Pratt scoreless for the remainder of the half, as the visitors rattled off the final 21 points of the stanza capped by a pair of Nia Tompkins layups, going into halftime leading 29-3.

The Cannoneers found little relief after the break, as Kimonia Mullings scored three straight field goals out of halftime before a Basoski mid-range jumper on a feed from Cai snapped the drought. Medgar Evers' defense forced 27 turnovers on the night, which the Cougars turned into 27 points, coasting to a 57-7 win.

Mullings led all players with 24 points and 21 rebounds, while Tompkins added 11 points and five boards off the bench.

In addition to three from Cai and two from Basoski, who tied Cai with a team-high eight rebounds, forward Hunter DuVall added two points and a steal for Pratt, which drops to 0-4 on the season.
