Pratt playing for fifth straight title after 9-0 blanking of New Rochelle

BROOKLYN -- No. 2 Pratt Institute will challenge for its fifth straight Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday after a 9-0 shutout of No. 3 College of New Rochelle Monday night at the ARC.

Freshman Melanie Kania earned a 10-1 victory over Nancy Varughese in No. 1 singles and teamed with Neeka Gilardian for an 8-3 win over Varughese and Shanique Roye. Gilardian, meanwhile, defeated Roye 8-2 in No. 2 singles.

The Cannoneers earned straight-set wins in fourth, fifth, and sixth singles from Yeh-Eun Heo, Nicole Hetzel, and Cailyn Culp, respectively. In third singles, Sude Rencber bested Marie Gomez, 8-2.

Second-seeded Pratt advances to the HVIAC Championship, where the Cannoneers will take on the winner of No. 1 Berkeley College and No. 4 Vaughn College on Saturday afternoon at the Billie Jean King USTA National Tennis Center.
