Jakubowska earns No. 1 singles victory, but Pratt falls to Baruch in season opener

BROOKLYN -- Pratt's Agata Jakubowksa earned a No. 1 singles victory in the Cannoneers 8-1 season-opening loss to Baruch College Friday night at the ARC.

The junior and reigning HVIAC Player of the Year outlasted Baruch's Allie Jackson-Hing 6-0, 7-6 (4-7). Jackson-Hing and Daria Vasekina, meanwhile, teamed to best Jakubowska and freshman Melanie Kania 8-3 in top singles.

Making her college debut, Kania fell to Vasekina 6-2, 6-4 in second singles. Reigning Hudson Valley Rookie of the Year Megan Basaldua dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Heyley Bester in No. 3 singles.

The win improved Baruch to 2-0 on the season.

Pratt returns to play back at the ARC on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., playing host to the University of Scranton.
