PHOENIXVILLE, PA – Senior Megan Lighty (Vienna, VA/Juan Diego Catholic) and sophomore Katherine Shan (Palo Alto, CA/Palo Alto Senior) each scored a pair of goals for the third straight game leading Pratt Institute women's soccer to a 6-0 victory over the University of Valley Forge on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomores Carlyle MacDonald (Sewickley, PA/Quaker Valley) and Andrea Porretta (Philadelphia, PA/HS for the Creative and Performing Arts) also scored for Pratt, who improved to 3-0 in the first season since women's soccer returned as an intercollegiate offering. The Cannoneers have yet to allow a goal in the 2016 season.
Valley Forge fell to 2-12.
After the start of the game was delayed by nearly two hours, Lighty put the Cannoneers on the board just 6:40 into the match. Shan followed 17:00 later, beating Valley Forge goalkeeper Taniyah Faison for her fifth of the season. The two first-half goals were more than enough for Pratt, who allowed only one shot by Valley Forge in posting its third straight shutout. Sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Dreher (Troy, NY/Tamarac) earned her second win of the season.
"When you have an event that delays the game two hours, you never know how a team will react as much as you prepare them for everything," said head coach Jonas Worth. "But the team followed the game plan to a tee and the ladies were ready to battle. We have been working on some mental aspects of our game and they came out today from every player."
Lighty began the second half by beating Faison in the 46th minute for her sixth goal of the season. MacDonald and Shan extended the Pratt lead to five before Porretta closed out scoring in the 83rd minute, with her first goal of the season.
The Cannoneers dominated all facets of the game, outshooting Valley Forge 29-1, including 18-0 in the first half. Junior Jen Klockner (Hamilton, NJ/Steinart) led the offense with five shots on goal.
Up Next: The Cannoneers travel to Newton, Massachusetts on Oct. 23, for a 2:30 p.m. match with Pine Manor College.
