BROOKLYN – Haotian Zhang (Chengdu, China/Chengdu No. 7) dropped a hard-fought, 9-7 (10-7), match in fourth singles to Elias Dimitropoulos as Vaughn College downed the Cannoneers, 5-4, in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Play at the Activities Resource Center (ARC) on Saturday afternoon.
Zhang teamed with Paul Thirouin (Houston, TX/George Washington University Online High School to down Vaughn's Tobi Oladeji and Ousmane Thioune, 8-2 in first doubles.
Andrew Barkett (Mansfield, OH/Lexington) and partner Raghav Pahuja (New Delhi, India/Delhi Public School) earned Pratt (1-6) a victory in second doubles with an 8-3 victory over Elias Dimitropoulos and Ahmed Aly.
Barkett and Thirouin would each earn a singles' flight victory, outpointing their opponents, 10-3 and 10-0, respectively.
After Pahuja dropped his match in third singles, Zhang, with his consistent shot and forehand drives, would give a valiant effort before falling in the tiebreaker.
With the victory, Vaughn improved to 1-1.
