YONKERS, NY – With a strong defensive performance, Pratt women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over Sarah Lawrence on Saturday at Tibbets Brook Park.
Junior Andrea Porretta gave Pratt (1-3) the lead early in the second half, scoring her first goal of the season in the 47th minute after drawing the keeper away from goal before smashing home the eventual game winner.
"Honestly, I was a bit shocked to get the ball in that situation," proclaimed Porretta. "But I made the most of the opportunity and I'm excited to get the win for the coaches and the team."
On the afternoon, the Cannoneers were outshot by the Gryphons by a 19-5 margin, but coach Jonas Worth's squad made up for the limited offensive output by playing technically sound defense. The back line pairing of Taylor Chin and Brittany Lovegrove helped preserve Pratt's lead en route to the program's best outing of the season. Junior Morgan Holub got the shutout in goal by saving 10 Sarah Lawrence shots.
Following his team's victory, Coach Worth commented on the progress his team has made over the first four games.
"As our fitness improves, so will the overall performance of this team," noted Worth. "We needed the win, but we still haven't reached what this team is capable of."
Up Next: The Cannoneers are off until Saturday, September 23rd, when they host Pine Manor College at Randall's Island. Kickoff is scheduled for 1pm.
