LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. — The Pratt Institute women's cross country team placed 18th against 25 scoring teams with 590 points at the NCAA Division III Metro Region Cross Country Championship on Saturday at Dream Park.
First-year Melis Kavlicoglu (Reno, Nev.) paced Pratt in 81st overall, covering the 6k course in 24:44.7. She went out in 6:11 for the opening mile and passed the 4.25k mark in 17:26.4 before closing as the Cannoneers' top finisher. It was highest placing in the event by a Cannoneer
Senior Giovanna Lisa (Reading, Pa.) followed in 26:48.2 for 134th, and first-year Sophia Schafler (West Palm Beach, Fla.) was 138th in 27:17.1. Sophomore Alyssa Trujillo (Morrison, Colo.) crossed in 27:50.7 for 143rd, and senior Kathleen Chen (Livingston, N.J.) rounded out the Pratt scorers in 30:56.1 for 164th. The gold-and-black tallied a 2:17:36 total with a 27:31 average.
Swarthmore College captured the team title with 71 points, edging The College of New Jersey (103) and Moravian College (106). In a close race that saw the top three runners separated by less than three seconds, Moravian's Tara Smurla won the individual championship in 21:11.4, while Rowan's Gabriella Pagano was third in 21:14.1 to lead the host Profs' fourth-place team finish.
