The Pratt Institute Department of Athletics and Recreation announced the hiring of Kulsum Khan as head athletic trainer in August 2021. She was promoted to Associate Director for Athletic Training, Student Wellness, and Academic Success in July 2022.

"Kulsum has developed great relationships and trust with our students and staff," said Director of Athletics and Recreation Walter Rickard.  "We want to continue to provide our student-athletes with the best experience we can. This new role will provide the support needed to do that. This will also provide a direct line of communication between athletics and other departments on campus."

The SWA and member of the athletic leadership team, her duties include oversight of student wellness and academic success. She also will serve as sport administrator for the women's basketball and equestrian teams.

Khan came to Pratt from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she earned her Masters of Science in Athletic Training in 2021.  While at Thomas Jefferson, Khan completed her clinical experiences at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, Jefferson Rehabilitation, Jefferson Sports Medicine, Cinnaminson High School, and Cairn University.

During her time with Cairn University, Khan provided medical coverage, performed evaluations, conducted conclusion evaluations and recorded and documented medical notes.  She worked with Cairn's DIII men's and women's soccer, men's and women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country, and men's and women's basketball programs.

Continuing her well-rounded experience, Khan spent eight weeks at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy working with lacrosse, track & field, crew, baseball, softball, wrestling and tennis.  Khan provided medical coverage, concussion evaluations, and developed and implemented rehabilitation plans for ankle sprains, hamstring strains, LCL sprains, and erector spinae tightness.

Khan earned a Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology with a double minor in Biology and Health & Society from Rutgers University in 2018.
