BROOKLYN – Pratt Institute improved to 2-1 with a 68-21 win over visiting Webb Institute in non-conference men's basketball play Thursday night.
Pratt freshman Mehmet Doganata led all players with 15 points on 7-13 shooting to go along with eight rebounds, and HVIAC Player of the Week Ari Grant followed with 14 points on a 7-14 effort from the floor.
Pratt held Webb to 14 percent shooting – including 9 percent (2-22) in the second half as Webb fell to 0-2.
Back-to-back Ari Grant layups capped a 12-2 Cannoneers run to open the contest, and another Grant layup closed out a 10-0 run that put Pratt up 28-6. After a Nicholas Lensander jumper fell short, Aaron Nininger's putback at the buzzer sent the Cannoneers into the locker room with a 38-9 lead.
For the half, Pratt held Webb to 20 percent (4-20) shooting while connecting on 17-36 from the field (47 percent) and outrebounding the Webbies 26-15.
Layups from Doganata and Lensander out of the intermission extended the lead to 42-9, and Pratt never looked back, cruising to a 68-21 win. Lensander led Pratt with 11 rebounds to go along with nine points, and junior Aaron Nininger totaled season bests of eight points and nine rebounds on 4-10 shooting.
