St. Joseph's College raced out to a 20-0 lead, shooting 50 percent in the first half, including 44 percent from three-point range, in opening up a 47-16 halftime lead in besting the host Cannoneers 81-38 Tuesday night at the Activities Resource Center (ARC) in Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) men's basketball play.
After being named HVMAC Rookie of the Week Tuesday morning, Grant led the Cannoneers with 20 points to go along with 10 rebounds, shooting 3-7 from three-point range in tallying his seventh double-double in his last seven games. Like Grant, fellow freshman Nicholas Lensander played all 40 minutes, logging six points and seven rebounds, but St. Joe's held Pratt to 26 percent shooting in racing away with the victory.
The Bears opened up a 10-0 lead in the first 90 seconds, eventually going up 20-0 on Ian Duff's fourth three-pointer in the first 5:00. For the night, St. Joseph's shot 46 percent from the floor and 44 percent (14-32) from three-point range in firing their way to victory. Thomas Karinski led the Bears with 18 points on six three pointers, all in the first 10:00 of the second half.
At 15-10 and 5-1 in league play, St. Joseph's moves on to the HVMAC playoffs while the loss marks the end of the Cannoneers season at 4-9 and 1-5 in HVMAC play.
