HYDE PARK, NY -- Pratt suffered its first loss of 2013 with
a 25-20, 25-20, 25-22 setback at the Culinary Institute of America
in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletics Conference women's
volleyball play.
Freshman Hannah
Calderwood led all players with eight kills on 18 attempts and
three total blocks.
Pratt started the day by taking an 11-8 lead thanks to a pair of
Diana
Lezama service aces, but two Kristin McGinn aces in a 6-0 run
swung the Steels on top for good in a 25-20 Game 1 win.
Another Lezama ace that followed a Nicole Garcia
kill gave Pratt a 16-14 lead in Game 2, leading to a CIA timeout.
The Steels responded with a 5-0 run compliments of a pair of
Cannoneers attack errors that put CIA on top 23-19 in another 25-20
win.
A Lezama kill before a Steels attack error gave Pratt a 12-11
lead in the third set, but CIA responded to score eight of the next
nine. With the set tied at 23-23, kills from McGinn and Amber
Krigler polished off the Steels 3-0 victory.
Lezama totaled six kills to go along with team bests of 11 digs
and three service aces as Pratt fell to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in
Hudson Valley play. The Cannoneers take the week off before
traveling to the first of the team's two tri-matches next Saturday
at the University of St. Joseph (CT), where the team will first
face Pine Manor College at noon.
