BROOKLYN -- Pratt Institute dropped its season opener to St. Joseph's (BK) College, 74-25, Wednesday night in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball play.
Sophomore Carol Cai led Pratt, hitting 2-5 from three-point range for her eight points and tying with freshman Natali Basoski for a team-best nine rebounds. Freshman Maria Castillo added eight points and a team-best two steals as Pratt fell to 0-1 (0-1 HVIAC).
A Cai three-pointer 67 second into the contest put Pratt on top 3-2, but the defending HVIAC runner-up scored 31 straight over a span of 14-plus minutes. Basoski buried a jumper with 4:42 remaining in the first, and another Cai triple cut the margin to 36-8. St. Joseph's scored the last six of the half to take a 42-8 halftime lead and scored four straight out of break in its 74-25 win.
For the Bears, all 11 players registered at least one field goal, with three players reaching double figures. Lauren GaNun led all players with 12 points off the bench for St. Joseph's.
