HYDE PARK -- Pratt Institute improved to 7-0 on 2014, knocking off host Culinary Institute of America and visiting King's College Saturday afternoon in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's volleyball play.
Middle hitter Hannah Calderwood set the tone, leading all players with a .733 attack percentage after 11 error-free kills on 15 swings during the Cannoneers 3-1 win over the host Steels. Fellow sophomore Alice Vicente threw down a match-best 17 kills, guiding Pratt's .476 fourth-set attack against CIA, as the first-place Cannoneers improved to 7-0, 3-0 in HVIAC play.
Two days after accumulating a triple-double in only three sets, Vicente complimented her 17 kills in Pratt's first four set match with four aces. Cannoneers setter Alli Houghton added a double-double of her own, notching 10 aces and 24 assists as Pratt dusted off the Steels in a 7-0 start to 2014.
In the late match, Pratt earned its second 3-0 win over King's (NY) College, with Calderwood totaling 12 kills on 20 attempts for a .400 hitting percentage. Vicente led all players with 15 kills on 27 attempts, hitting .370 on the match, and followed that up with a match-best 11 digs for her fifth double-double. Freshman Abby Nagy collected a season-best 10 digs in the Cannoneers seventh win in as many matches.
At 7-0, Pratt retuns to play at Gwynedd Mercy against the Griffins and Wells College on Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m.
