BROOKLYN – Pratt thrived in its final regular season tune-up before Sunday's Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, topping Cooper Union 3-0 in non-conference women's volleyball play Thursday on Senior Night at the ARC.
Pratt's
Hannah Calderwood led all players with 10 kills, and fellow junior
Joan Wyeth posted a match-best .417 attack percentage, with six kills on 12 attacks.
Charlotte Burch fired a career-high 12 service aces, and
Alli Houghton, honored in a pregame ceremony, led all players with 25 assists and nine digs.
The opening set belonged to Burch, as her aces gave Pratt a 4-2 and then a 6-2 lead, and a kill from the middle hitter upped the margin to 13-6. Back-to-back kills from the junior forced a Cooper Union timeout trailing 17-8, after which Burch fired four aces over the next five points as the Cannoneers went on to a 25-12 win.
A Wyeth ace opened up a 7-2 lead in the second set, but Skyler Eiskowitz's ace pulled the Hawks to within 7-6. From there, a Nagy ace capped a 5-0 Pratt run to put the contest out of question, and consecutive kills from the junior later increased the lead to 19-10 in a 25-10 Game 2 rout.
Antonia Stoyanovich's ace found the visitors on top 4-0 to start the third set, but Pratt scored eight of the next 10, culminating with a Calderwood kill, to go on top for good at 8-6. Calderwood and
Beryl Perron-Feller's block assist increased the margin to 23-14 as the Cannoneers held on for a 25-17 victory.
The win snapped a streak of eight straight matches alternating wins and losses. At 7-13, Pratt will take on The Culinary Institute of America in HVIAC Semifinals action at The College of New Rochelle on Sunday at 2:00. In the teams' first match-up this season, the Steels knocked off the Cannoneers 3-0 on October 11.
Prior to the match, Pratt honored Houghton prior to her final home contest. The senior entered the match with 1,032 set assists and 170 service aces over her three-year career, leading the HVIAC in set assists with 7.69 per set in 2014 and in service aces with 1.31 per set as a sophomore in 2013.
