Epperson nears triple-double in loss to Keystone

BROOKLYN -- A 25-0 Keystone College run separated the Giants in the team's 74-26 win over Pratt Institute in non-conference women's basketball play Monday night at the ARC.

Cannoneers center Amissa Epperson flirted with a triple-double, totaling eight points and 11 rebounds to go along with eight blocked shots. In her first action of the season, forward Chloe Williams added four points and 10 rebounds before fouling out, and Anna Bryce added team highs of four assists and three steals to go along with seven rebounds, but the Giants pressure forced an astounding 47 Pratt turnovers in the loss.

For Keystone, Bryce Garrett led all players with 14 points, and Dyjae Williams followed with 11.

The hosts hung tough in the early going, with a Jennifer Klockner steal and fast break layup bringing the Cannoneers to within one at 5-4. Williams' putback then gave Pratt a 6-5 lead, leading to an early Keystone timeout. The Giants responded with eight straight to close out the first quarter, with an Emily Hutton jumper in the final minute finding Pratt down 13-6 after one.

An Epperson basket to open the scoring the second made it a five-point game at 13-8, but that would be as close as the Cannoneers would come. A Garrett three-pointer ignited a 25-0 second quarter run that spanned just over six minutes, with Pratt down 38-9 when a Celena Tang free throw snapped the drought at the 2:30 mark of the second. The Cannoneers scored five of the final seven points of the half, but went into intermission down 46-14.

From that point on, Keystone led by 30 or more, cruising to a 74-26 win on the strength of a defense that forced 47 turnovers and held Pratt to 19 percent (10-52) shooting.

The Cannoneers return to the hardwood December 3, playing host to Vaughn College in non-league play.
