BROOKLYN -- Pratt Institute prevailed in its first road test of 2015, earning a 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-16, 25-20) win at Medgar Evers College in intra-borough, non-conference men's volleyball action Thursday night in Crown Heights.
Reigning Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week David Cutler led Pratt with 11 kills on 24 swings, and sophomore Chris Fantin led all players with five service aces as Pratt improved to 2-1. Matthew Valentine enjoyed his finest match of the young season, totaling five kills on nine attempts to go along with a pair of block assists and a team-high six digs.
Led by Valentine's .444 attack percentage, the Cannoneers hit .241 as a team, confining the Cougars to a .169 attack. Junior Connan Moody sent back three solo blocks and assisted on three other blocks as Pratt held the hosts to under .060 hitting in two of the four sets. HVIAC Rookie of the Week Brandon Ryan totaled three blocks to go with five digs.
For Medgar Evers, Jamal Chance led all players with 17 kills, hitting .355 and adding eight digs as the hosts dropped to 0-10 on the year.
The Cannoneers return to play Saturday at the Culinary Institute of America in non-league play.
