Jones' double-double helps Pratt overcome 13-point hole in non-league setback

BROOKLYN – Pratt Institute overcame a 13-point first half deficit before falling 63-52 to The New School Tuesday night in non-conference men's basketball play at the ARC.

Pratt center Khari Jones turned in his second straight double-double , as the freshman tallied 19 points and 11 rebounds. Ari Grant totaled a double-double of 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, and Andrew Yaglenski added 17 points on 3-8 shooting from distance as Pratt falls to 6-8.

The New School's Dustin Sodano led all scorers with 24 points, connecting on 5-9 three-pointers. Point guard HJ Gaskins added 11 points on 2-5 from deep in the win.

The Narwhals came out firing, with Gaskins and Sedano three-pointers opening up a 10-4 lead only three minutes in. A Ty Anania layup at the 11:10 mark put The New School in front 22-11, and a Gaskins slashing layup gave the Narwhals the team's largest lead, forcing a Pratt timeout trailing 30-17.

From that point forward, Pratt closed the half on a 10-2 run capped by a Grant reverse lay-in, going into halftime trailing 32-27. Khari Jones led all players with 17 points through halftime, while Sodano and Gaskins totaled 11 each for Pratt.

After scoring the final eight points of the first to pull within five, Pratt opened by scoring the first seven of the second, taking a 34-32 lead on a Yaglenski three-pointer followed by four Grant free throws. Another Yaglenski triple handed Pratt its biggest lead of the night at 41-36, but an 8-0 run sparked by five straight from Sodano swung the Narwhals up 50-45, giving the visitors the lead for good.

Yaglensiki's third trey of the half pulled the Cannoneers to within two at 52-50 with 3:20 to play, but The New School answered with an 11-0 run started by a Sodano three-pointer and closed out by a Noah Dagan triple, going to to a 63-52 win.

At 6-8, Pratt returns to HVIAC play on Thursday, playing host to Berkeley (NY).
