BROOKLYN – Visiting Berkeley College upended Pratt Institute Thursday night, 101-18, in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball play at the Pratt ARC.
Berkeley forward Champagne Hazel led all players with 34 points on 15-27 shooting, and Patricia Patterson logged a triple-double of 17 points, 15 rebounds and 11 steals as the Knights improved to 12-7 (4-1 HVIAC).
For the Cannoneers (0-6, 0-5 HVIAC), center Natali Basoski and guard Maria Castillo tied for team high honors with eight points, both season highs. Basoski added eight rebounds and a pair of blocks, Castillo corralled seven boards with two steals, and Hunter Duvall added five rebounds in the loss.
A Castillo running jumper from outside the left block tied the contest at 2-2 in the early going. From there, the visitors took off on a 12-0 run capped by fast break layups from Patricia Patterson and Hazel, taking a 14-2 lead at the 14:44 mark of the first half.
Consecutive layups from Basoski cut the margin to eight at 14-6 90 seconds later, but Janay Thomas fast break lay-ins capped a 6-0 run spanning 45 seconds that put the Knights on top by double digits for good. Berkeley's full-court pressure forced 24 first half Pratt turnovers, and the visitors took a 53-10.
Back-to-back Hazel three-pointers out of halftime sparked a 17-0 run to open the second, and Berkeley went on to a 101-18 victory.
Pratt returns to the hardwood on Sunday, traveling to Albany Pharmacy in HVIAC play.
