HYDE PARK, NY – Cannoneers guard Andrew Yaglenski
poured in a season-high 32 points, but Pratt fell 74-51 at the
Culinary Institute of America Sunday afternoon in Hudson Valley
Intercollegiate Athletics Conference men's basketball play.
Fellow freshman Tytus Millikan
corralled a season-best 18 rebounds, though CIA out rebounded the
Cannoneers 54-32 on the day, 13 coming from Avery Britton.
Britton's jumper on the Steels opening possession sparked a 12-0
run to start the day, with the visitors held scoreless until a
Millikan lay-in just outside the 12:00 mark. Culinary's lead
remained in double figures the remainder of the afternoon, as the
Steels entered halftime leading 34-21 after an Aaron Best basket
beat the buzzer.
As he did in the opening stanza, Britton's lay-in started the
scoring in the second, commencing a 9-0 run out of intermission and
putting the game out of reach. Nineteen of Yaglenski's career-best
32 came in the second, as did seven of Jeff
Chung-Hsiang's season-high nine points, and one of Yaglenski's
four three-pointers pulled Pratt to within 11, at 48-37 with 11:00
left. Culinary responded with a 13-0 run spanning 4:24, as a Beve
Julien layup capped the rally and distanced the Steels for
good.
In addition to a team-high 13 boards, Britton led Culinary with
25 points on 9-17 shooting. Sevens were wild for Steels guard
Anthony Russo, who tallied seven points, seven assists and seven
steals.
Yaglenski's 32 came on an efficient 11-22 shooting, including
4-7 from distance. As a team, Pratt was held to 31 percent
shooting, 20 percent outside the freshman guard. Led by Yaglenski's
6-6 effort, the team converted 80 percent at the free throw
line.
The Cannoneers continue HVIAC play Monday night at the Pratt ARC
against King's (NY) College.
