Men's volleyball wins fourth straight, 3-0 at CU

NEW YORK -- Pratt Institute closed out its regular season riding a four-match winning streak, disposing of Cooper Union 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-23) Saturday afternoon in non-conference road men's volleyball play.

The Cannoneers were led by sophomore Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week David Cutler, who totaled 13 kills with only three errors on 25 tries, hitting .400 on the attack. Junior middle hitter Ari Grant made his season debut, totaling nine kills on 24 attacks, good for a .333 percentage, and senior Alex Arsovski added five kills on 17 error-free swings.

Reigning HVIAC Rookie of the Week Brandon Ryan orchestrated the Cannoneers attack, handing out 28 assists and adding a team-best two service aces. With Ryan distributing, the Cannoneers hit an impressive .250 as a team, totaling 25 kills with nine errors on 88 attacks.

On the defensive side, Cutler and Arsovski scooped up team-highs of 16 digs each. Grant added five total blocks, as did fellow middle hitter Matthew Valentine, as Pratt improved to 5-2 on the road and 9-5 in concluding the regular season.

In the team's first season in the HVIAC, the Cannoneers earned a No. 2 seed in the league tournament, played Wednesday night and hosted by Yeshiva University. Student interested in attending can sign up for Pratt's free Fan Van, which leaves campus at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
