Suffolk, St. Joseph (CT) best Cannoneers at Blue Jays tri-match

WEST HARTFORD, CT -- Pratt suffered a 3-1 setback to Suffolk before the host Blue Jays knocked off the Cannoneers 3-0 at the University of St. Joseph tri-match on Saturday.

In the 11-25, 25-22, 17-25, 14-25 setback to Suffolk, Charlotte Burch led Pratt with 11 kills, while Alli Houghton added five kills with only one error over eight swings for a match-high .500 attack percentage. Joanna Yeung and Joan Wyeth chipped in with four kills each, but the Rams hit .300 and .333 in the final two sets to snap a 1-1 tie for a 3-1 win.

Houghton added 18 set assists and 16 digs for her first double-double of the season, but Pratt hit only .104 while the Rams hit .269 as a team in improving to 3-6 on the year.

St. Joseph outhit the Cannoneers .310 to .036 in the Blue Jays 3-0 victory. Burch again led the Pratt attack, this time with nine kills with only four errors on 20 attempts for a team-high .250 percentage, and sophomore Abby Nagy added seven kills.

Linsey Kromer led all players with 16 digs, and Nagy and Houghton added eight each, but the Jays hit .240 or better in all three sets in the 3-0 (16-25, 15-25, 20-25) win.

Pratt opens HVIAC play on Thursday at home against The King's College at 7:30 p.m.
