TEANECK, NJ -- A Yeshiva University goal in the 82nd minute thwarted any hope of a Pratt comeback in the Cannoneers 3-1 loss to the host Maccabees in non-conference men's soccer play Wednesday night at University Stadium.
Freshman Natt Slober scored his team-high eighth goal in Pratt's season finale.
The teams remained scoreless for almost the entire first half, but the Cannoneers saw the team's best chances in the first six minutes. Both of Pratt's first half corner kicks and four of the team's 10 shots came in a five-minute span in the first 5:40, but the visitor's failed to capitalize.
At the 38:55 mark, Yeshiva's Netanel Silberman took a feed from Dan Cohen and beat Pratt keeper Joseph Mendoza on a breakaway to put the Maccabees on top 1-0, which held for the remainder of the half.
Yeshiva totaled 19 shots in an action-packed first half, with the Cannoneers launching 10 and the teams totaling two corner kicks each.
The Macs doubled the team's lead less than three minutes out of intermission. Albert Dichy tallied his sixth goal of the season on a through pass from Silberman, upping the lead to 2-0 at 47:55.
Slober cut the hosts lead in half 12 minutes later. At 58:59, he scored his eighth tally of the year on a putback, trimming the margin to 2-1.
Pratt had a pair of chances to tie the contest 13 minutes later, when back-to-back shots from Alvin Wenhao and Atilla Guzey were stopped by Maccabees keeper Max Goldstein at 72:17. Those would be the Cannoneers final shots of the contest, and Yeshiva added an insurance goal from Silberman from just outside the box at 81:55, securing the team's first win in four games.
On the night, the Macs (3-10-1) outshot Pratt 29-17 and held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Mendoza stopped a match-high 13 shots in goal.
The Cannoneers wrap up men's soccer's return to play at 4-3 on the season. The team joins the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 2017.
