BROOKLYN – Pratt Institute fell to 6-6 on the season with a 75-63 setback to visiting Yeshiva University Tuesday night in non-conference women's basketball play at the Pratt ARC.
Cannoneers forward Anna Bryce (Troy, NY/Albany Academy) led all players with a career-high 24 points to go along with 11 rebounds and five steals. Freshman center Amissa Epperson (Jersey City, NJ/McNair Academic) logged her sixth double-double in 11 games played with 18 points on 6-7 shooting at the free throw line and a game-high 14 rebounds, adding three assists, four blocks, and three steals.
Sophomore forward Michal Alge led the Maccabees (1-17) with 22 points on 8-14 shooting, and Julia Owen added 19 points and five assists. Junior Tess Blaustein came off the bench for 10 assists in 24 minutes, and junior Simee Rosner totaled a double-double with 13 points, tying Epperson for game-high honors with 14 rebounds.
As was the case in Saturday's home loss to Davis College, first quarter woes proved costly for the Cannoneers. A Carol Cai (West Covina, CA/Rowland) three-pointer gave Pratt a 12-9 lead with under 3:00 left in the period, but Epperson hit the bench with her second personal foul seconds later, and two Alge baskets sparked a 10-0 run in a span of 2:00 that gave Yeshiva a 19-12 lead after one.
A Sabrina Barakat (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) jumper pulled Pratt to within 24-16 with 6:49 left in the second, but Owen scored four points in an 8-0 run that opened up a 32-16 Yeshiva lead at the 4:00 mark of the quarter. Rosner's layup in the closing seconds of the frame sent the Macs into the locker room leading 43-24, as Yeshiva held Pratt to 26 percent (8-31) shooting and forced 20 Cannoneers turnovers through halftime.
An Epperson three-point play trimmed the margin to 11 at 55-44 on the opening possession of the fourth quarter, but Rachel Mirsky's three-pointer increased the lead back to 16 moments later, and Yeshiva maintained a double-digit lead the remainder of the way. The Maccabees defense forced 32 turnovers and held the Cannoneers to 32 percent shooting (22-68), which prevented any Pratt comeback.
Junior Celena Tang (Upland, CA/Upland) and freshman AimeeLyn Miller (Durfur, OR/Durfur) came off the bench for five rebounds each, Miller adding eight points an 4-4 shooting at the stripe, as Pratt out-rebounded Yeshiva 57-50.
The Cannoneers close out the team's regular season on Friday at 6:00 p.m. at home in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play against King's (NY) College.
