NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Pratt Institute men's soccer fell 9-0 on the road to College of New Rochelle on Saturday afternoon.
New Rochelle (6-1) received four goals from Nicorey Warren and three by Jovanni Garcia in the victory. The loss was the first for Pratt (2-1) since men's soccer returned as an intercollegiate offering.
Goalkeeper Joseph Mendoza (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) made 10 saves for the Cannoneers as New Rochelle outshot the Cannoneers, 26-8. Only four of Pratt's eight shots were on goal. Cristi Del Castillo registered the shutout for the Blue Angels.
"This was a loss that needed to happen," said head coach Jonas Worth. "New Rochelle demonstrated to our Cannoneers how important it is to play together and with intelligence at this level. I can teach these young men more from today's game than in an entire month of training. We will move forward with great enthusiasm for growth."
Garcia opened the scoring for New Rochelle, beating Mendoza just thirty seconds into the match, off a feed from Gerson Arroyave Jr. He added his second of the match at 9:32, scoring off a perfectly placed through ball from Oscar Guido that parted the Pratt defense.
Showing the ability to create offense in addition to his ability to finish, Garcia assisted on Warren's first two goals, pushing the New Rochelle lead to 4-0 in the 21st minute.
Warren and Garcia completed their hat tricks with goals 2:04 apart in the second. Warren closed the scoring with his fourth of the game at 65:55, taking a pass from T.Y. Lenk, beating Mendoza.
Up Next: The Cannoneers will take on Central Penn College in the first soccer doubleheader of the season. Women's soccer begins at 1:00 p.m. and men's soccer will begin at 3:30 p.m.
