MORRISTOWN, NJ -- Pratt Institute improved to 3-0 by besting host St. Elizabeth 3-1 and knocking off Old Westbury 3-0 Saturday at the Eagles tri-match in non-conference women's volleyball play.
Cannoneers senior Hannah Calderwood led all players with 13 kills in the win, erring only once on 28 attacks. Talya Polat added eight kills and only one error, while Julia Kubak and Charlotte Burch chipped in with five kills and one error each.
Senior Beryl Perron-Feller led the defense with 11 digs, and freshman Marlena Todd scooped up 10. Junior Abby Nagy handed out 23 assists, while freshman setter Deniz Aysay added nine.
The Eagles opened up an 8-4 lead in Game 1, but Louis Sepulveda's club came back to win 25-23. St. Elizabeth dominated the second set, winning 25-8, but the Cannoneers turned the tide in Game 3. Pratt opened up a 14-8 lead and ended the set on an 11-4 run, winning 25-12, and held on for a 25-23 in in Game 4.
Pratt coasted in three sets, 25-14, 25-14, 25-16 over Old Westbury. Todd led all players with 13 kills and five attack errors on 28 swings, good for a .348 attack percentage. Burch and Kubak added six and four kills, respectively, with neither committing an error on 10 attacks each.
Polat led all players with eight digs as Pratt improved to 3-0, the team's best start since opening 8-0 in 2014.
The Cannoneers return to play on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in non-conference play at Cooper Union.
