Cannoneers begin conference play by routing The King's College

BROOKLYN -- The Pratt Institute women's basketball team led from the opening tip and didn't look back in their conference opener, registering an impressive 66-22 victory over The King's College Thursday.

The Cannoneers (3-3, 1-0 HVIAC) stormed out of the gates, scoring the first 17 points of the evening, capped off by a layup from sophomore Amissa Epperson. By the end of the first 10 minutes, the Cannoneers had built a 21-9 lead.

In the second frame, senior Anna Bryce opened the scoring with four quick points. The Lions (2-4, 0-1 HVIAC) were held to a mere three points and trailed 45-12 at intermission. Ashley Schmid, a freshman, saw significant time and registered her first career field goal, a baseline jumper, midway through the second.

The second half began with Pratt running off 10 quick points, effectively sealing the victory while providing their bench with quality minutes. Late three-pointers by both Sabrina Barakat and Jennifer Klockner concluded an evening that saw eight players score for Pratt.

The staunch Pratt defense held King's to just 10 second half points. Overall, the Lions shot just 12.7% from the field on the night, while the Cannoneers forced a season-high 30 turnovers.

Emily Guerra recorded a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds while Bryce added 11 points to go with 10 steals.

The visitors were led by Kelsey Thomason's eight point.

The Cannoneers will be in action Monday afternoon, traveling to take on Central Penn College.
