Pratt routs Cooper Union, turns attention to conference showdown

BROOKLYN, NY –  The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team made quick work of Cooper Union, posting a 25-8, 25-10, 25-6 victory on Friday evening at the ARC. With the decision, the Cannoneers improve to 7-5, while the visiting Hawks fall to 0-3.

From the onset, Pratt overwhelmed their opponent, holding Cooper Union to a -.276 hitting percentage for the match while forcing them into 22 attacking errors.

Feeding off their strong defensive play, Pratt dominated with their service game, notching a season-best 23 aces led by Emelen Mikelic's nine.

For the match, Mikelic led the Cannoneers with eight kills, while Marlena Todd tallied six. Patricia Morales posted a personal-best six aces to go along with six digs.

While the victory was celebrated, attention turned quickly to the critical Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tri-match this coming weekend, featuring Davis College and conference powerhouse New Rochelle. On the eve of rematch with New Rochelle, the team who bested Pratt in last year's HVIAC championship game, coach Louis Sepulveda talked about the importance of the game.

"We're excited for the challenge. We have been talking about this date all season long. If we want to be the best, we have to beat the best. I'm looking forward to seeing what this new crop of players has to offer tomorrow."
