Cannoneers best Lions, turn attention to conference tournament

BROOKLYN, NY – Outside Hitter Emelen Mikelic struck for a career-best 26 kills and added 11 digs as Pratt defeated the Lions of King's College 3-1 in non-conference play at the ARC on Wednesday evening. With the victory, the Cannoneers swept all three meetings against King's this season.

After racing out to a 16-9 lead in the opening set, King's would engineer a 9-3 run to close within a single point, 19-18, forcing Pratt to take a timeout. When play resumed, Pratt's offense would take over. Paced by three consecutive kills from Mikelic, the Cannoneers took the first set 25-19, punctuated by Abby Nagy's service ace.

As was the case in the first frame, set two proved to be a close contest, as neither team was able to gain separation. With Pratt leading 16-12, a kill from Anna Elisse Uy started the Cannoneers rally. An ace by Patricia Morales and two more kills from Mikelic gave Pratt the set, 25-18.

Following a set three win by the Lions, 25-19, a trio of aces from Alivia Senevoravong and two from Uy helped Pratt open a 14-10 lead. King's would close the Cannoneers lead to one, 21-20, but would get no closer, as the Cannoneers pulled away for the 25-21 win.

For the match, Pratt attacked at an even .200 percentage, registering 50 kills and hitting for 15 aces. Emelen Mikelic led all players with kills (26), swings (55), and hitting percentage (.382). Alivia Senevoravong notched her third 40-plus assist game of the year, tallying 44, and Cori Glidden matched her personal-best with nine kills. Defensively, Hannah Lee and Anna Elisse Uy combined for 30 dig, 16 and 14 respectively.

Up Next: The Cannoneers will travel to New Rochelle for the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday, November 4th.
