BROOKLYN – Pratt Institute men's basketball suffered their first setback of the season, falling to Vermont Tech 93-39 at the ARC Monday night. Andrew Yaglenski paced the Cannoneers with 12 points, while Tytus Millikan added 10 points and Eric Xue contributed seven.
Pratt sees its record fall to 2-1, while the Knights improve to 7-1.
Following an 8-0 run by Vermont Tech to open the game, Yaglenski's layup got the Cannoneers on the scoreboard. The Knights would continue to control the pace of the game, turning a number of Pratt turnovers into easy buckets. Back-to-back Xue threes would attempt to swing momentum, but the Knights would regain control and take a 46-18 advantage into halftime.
The Cannoneers opened the second by connecting on a pair of treys to cut the Pratt deficit to 53-24 with 17:20 to play. Despite better shooting, the Cannoneers had no answers for Vermont Tech's sharp shooting and press defense. The latter part of the half was utilized by getting some of the Cannoneers' reserves some quality minutes, most notably, Chris Harding, Isaac Moorman, and Hamza Hamdeh.
Daniel Gill shot a perfect 100 percent from the field and led the Knights with 21 points, and Cameron Carter netted 17 for the victors.
While the result may not show progress in the box score, the Cannoneers view tonight as a positive step on what it takes to develop a quality program.
"Tonight was a tough one for us," head coach Max Sass said. "Hats off to a really good Vermont Tech team. I do need to give my guys credit for fighting for all 40 minutes though. Shots didn't fall, and we turned it over a bit too much, but the scoreboard was in no way indicative of how we played tonight."
UP NEXT – The Cannoneers welcome the Tornadoes of Touro College to Clinton Hill on Tuesday evening. Tipoff will take place at 7:30 pm.
