BROOKLYN – Pratt Institute women's basketball battled early, but ultimately fell to the Broncos of SUNY-Delhi 84-51 on Friday evening at the ARC. With the result, the Cannoneeers level their record at 2-2, while the Broncos improve to 7-3.
"I think the game was a lot closer than the final score reflects," said second-year head coach Sade Jackson. "During the first half, when Delhi went on their run, I think we were kind of in shock. At halftime I told them that we needed to match their intensity and we did, but we just couldn't get over that hump. We played a very solid team tonight, but in order to stay in the game with teams like that, taking care of the ball has to be a priority."
For the game, the Cannoneers committed a season-high 33 turnovers which led to 38 Bronco points.
In the first quarter, back-to-back layups by Idalia Kaplan and Amissa Epperson evened the score at 11 midway through the period. However, seven Pratt turnovers in the final four minutes of the quarter allowed the Broncos to increase their lead to six, 21-15.
Period number two belonged to the Broncos, as they outscored the Cannoneeers 20-9, leading to a 41-24 halftime advantage.
To open the third, AimeeLyn Miller hit three quick buckets, a pair of threes and a jumper, to cut into the Delhi lead 48-34, but Pratt would get no closer for the remainder of the game as the Broncos prevailed 84-51.
Amissa Epperson paced Pratt with a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Idalia Kaplan contributed 16 points and AimeeLyn Miller added 10.
UP NEXT – The Cannoneers travel to Boston for a non-conference date with the Falcons of Fisher College on Saturday, December 9. A 3:00 pm tipoff is announced.
