NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Cannoneers forward AimeeLyn Miller hit on 4-7 from three-point range, but first-place College of New Rochelle outscored Pratt 18-11 in the fourth quarter of its 66-56 win Monday night in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball play.
The sophomore connected on a three-pointer to put Pratt ahead 5-2 just over two minutes in, and her second triple regained the lead at 10-8 with 1:55 left in the first quarter. Her third trey again swung the momentum, pulling Pratt on top at 13-12 at the 8:26 mark of the second, but it would be the Cannoneers last lead of the game. Dar'Neisha Brice jumpers then bookended a 7-0 Blue Angels run, and New Rochelle went into halftime leading 30-27.
Another 7-0 run featuring five points from Brice gave the Blue Angels its first double-digit lead up 46-36 with 2:49 left in the third, but jumpers from Pratt guards Jennifer Klockner and Idalia Kaplan landed Pratt back within three, closing out the quarter trailing 48-45.
Brice again distanced the hosts, as a 10-2 run starting at the 7:57 mark of the third featuring two three-pointers from the New Rochelle guard proved to be the difference. Her second triple of the run put New Rochelle on top 61-50, and the Blue Angels never again trailed by fewer than eight.
Center Amissa Epperson led Pratt with 16 points to go with 12 rebounds and a game-high seven blocks, and Anna Bryce played all 40 minutes for her double-double of 14 points and team-high 13 rebounds. Miller added 15 points, but Pratt's 5-17 free throw shooting ultimately proved costly.
Brice led all players with 30 points on 6-13 shooting from three-point range.
At 5-9 overall (1-4 HVIAC), Pratt return to play Wednesday night at 8:30 p.m. in the team's home finale against The King's College.
